AUSTRALIA - Panic as shots fired in Hindley St

OFF THE WIRE
PANICKED Hindley St revellers ran for their safety when gunshots were fired on the busy city strip in the latest outbreak of bikie violence.Detective Chief Inspector John Gerlach said a group of known Finks Motorcycle Club members and associates were involved in a dispute with a group of men "of Middle-Eastern appearance" outside a Hindley St lounge bar about 12.10am.
An employee of a nearby business said she saw people running from the scene after hearing two gunshots.
"There was the altercation with metal pipes and poles and then someone fired two shots into the air; the shots weren't fired at anyone, they were just warning shots, I think. I heard two shots," the employee said.
"Then I saw people running down the street away from it."
Det Chf Insp Gerlach said police tracked a Jaguar vehicle to a townhouse on Alexander Ave at Ashford and arrested the four passengers of the vehicle.
The driver and alleged gunman - a Finks member, 33 - ran into a nearby house and surrendered himself after an hour of negotiations.
He was charged with acts to endanger life and affray and refused bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Police also laid affray charges against the four passengers of the car: a South Plympton man, 28, a South Plympton woman, 47, a Golden Grove man, 34, and an Ashford woman, 29.
Yesterday morning a black hire car with a Finks patch in the back and a licence belonging to member Dylan Jessen on the front seat remained parked outside the house.
There is no suggestion that Jessen was involved in the Hindley St incident.
Police Minister Jennifer Rankine said the latest alleged bikie incident was "absolutely appalling".
"There are more than 200,000 visitors in the CBD this weekend ... and this violence demonstrates a shocking disregard for the community," she said.
